Tulcea

Tulcea dates back to pre-Roman times, presumably as a Greek colony. It was called Aegyssus. The Romans conquered it in around 15-12 BCE and largely remade it.

After the collapse of the Western Roman Empire, Aegyssus was part of the Byzantine Empire, First Bulgarian Empire (681-1018), Second Bulgarian Empire (1185-1396), Genoa, a few smaller entities and then was conquered by the Ottoman Empire in 1416.

In 1878 the Congress of Berlin assigned Tulcea to Romania.
